We are super excited to announce the release of my new book, Ken: a man for all seasons! The book is now available via the publisher, Plan B Press.
Here is a brief description of the book: On the surface, Ken: a man for all seasons seems to be about a doll. It is about a doll. Written from the perspective of Barbie’s famous boyfriend, the voice of Ken is harsh, cynical, sad, and humorous. Ken is the All-American man, yet no one is certain what that really means any more.
Ken may be the narrator of this collection but the topics of these poems are wide-ranging. Ken is just a doll, but his core concerns are universal: individuality, identity, masculinity, loneliness, destiny, purity, passion, and the list goes on. Like anyone, Ken is looking for his place in the world. More precisely, he is questioning his predetermined place in the world.
After reading this book you will never see Ken in the same light. And maybe yourself too.
I’m super excited about this book. It’s rather different from what I’ve published in the past. It took about two and half years to complete. Along the way I wasn’t even sure the project was offering anything of value. Basically, it seemed kind of lost. When I hit that point in a project I find one of the best things to do is to walk away. I left it alone for four or five months. Once I started up again, everything became clear. Finishing the book was actually rather easy after that. And I’m extremely proud with how it turned out.
The cover art fits the tone of the book perfectly. In the end, everything came together. Check it out!
Hey everyone. This is just a quick note to let you know that I’ll have some new poems in the next issue of The Battered Suitcase. You shouldn’t pick up a copy just to read my meager contribution, it’s a great publication and you’ll enjoy the whole thing! More to follow. There is always more to follow. Cheers.
If you’re interested in the cover art for the book, it was done by Amy Casey. She is awesome! The cover is absolutely gorgeous. You can learn more about Amy at her website here. Amy also provided artwork for the most recent Neko Case album, Middle Cyclone. And this is awesome because Neko Case is amazing. Also, Amy was recently featured on the cover of New American Paintings.
Greetings people from the future! I hope the new decade has gotten of to a great start for everyone. How is it 2010? When did that happen? (I know, like 11 days ago) But I digress…
Today, we’re announcing the publication of my next chapbook! This spring, Plan B Press will publish Your Casual Survival, my latest batch of poems. The book is going to be beautiful and I’m especially excited about the cover. Right now, I’ll leave you with bated breath in regards to all the details. But trust me, it’s going to be awesome. And on the tail of the publication, there will be readings and events so stay tuned for updates!
Looks like 2010 is off to a good start!
If you’re interested in checking out a new batch of poems (mine and other excellent poets), you should pick up the latest edition of the Refined Savage Poetry Review (issue #6). The poems that appear in this publication, there are 6 of my poems in all, are part of the new, upcoming, not-yet-announced book that I’ll have out next year. But we’ll discuss this new project at a later date once all of the details have been finalized. This issue of RSPR looks strong and I hope you have a chance to pick up a copy.
2010 is shaping up to be a very interesting, and busy, year. Very nice.
